Community Playgroup

Building connection for families — one playdate at a time

GSC Community Playgroup exists to help military families feel connected, supported, and less alone during one of the most demanding seasons of life: raising young kids while navigating military life. It is open to all community members with base access.

Right now, our playgroup is on hiatus — not because the community doesn’t want it, but because we’re looking for the right person to help bring it back to life.

And that might be you. 💛

We’re Looking for a Playgroup Chair

The Playgroup Chair is a volunteer leadership role that reports to the GSC Board and plays a meaningful part in supporting military families with young children. It’s a great fit for someone who loves creating welcoming spaces for parents and kids, enjoys community building, and wants to make a real impact without a heavy time commitment.

If you understand the importance of connection — especially for new-to-town or first-duty-station families — this role might be for you. No prior leadership experience is needed, just heart, reliability, and a genuine desire to help families find their people.

Playgroup Chair responsibilities

As Playgroup Chair, you would:

  • Coordinate recurring playgroup meetups (monthly or bi-weekly — your call!)

  • Choose locations like parks, indoor play spaces, or community venues

  • Communicate dates and details with the GSC team for promotion

  • Create a warm, inclusive environment where families feel welcome

  • Serve as the main point of contact for playgroup-related questions

The GSC Board provides support, guidance, and promotion so you can focus on connection, not admin overload.

Why This Role Matters

For many military spouses, playgroup is their first real community connection — a lifeline during deployments or long training days, a place to make friends for both themselves and their kids, and sometimes the reason they get out of the house on the hard days. By stepping into this role, you’re helping turn San Angelo into a place families don’t just live, but truly belong.
